The world has ended! The sky is falling, pigs have flown, the cows came home by themselves. I swear! Thursday night was the weirdest and one of the most fun nights of dancing I have had. Here's the story: so I ran into Tara on Wed. at the bus stop, which was funny in itself. And we talked for a little bit, and she decided to come out dancing since we were going Thursday. Now, going into this I knew I'd probably be getting myself into trouble, since I know that Tatsu really hates it when Tara comes out. So Matt and Emily and I get there, and Andrew and Tara are already there, and it's Andrew's last night. So we're having a good time. Matt jokingly asks whether we should make bets on whether Tatsu will leave as soon as he sees who's there, since he's not speaking to Andrew and hates Tara's guts. And then Meagan comes in, and Tatsu shortly after, and we learn that it's his last night in Seattle. And Matt collapses on the floor in laughter, because all bets are off then. There's no way Tatsu's going to leave. But Andrew feels bad, because Tatsu's going to be upset. So
we had to convince him it was perfectly fine. Because the only
reason he feels bad at all is because Tatsu has major issues, and
because Tatsu has major issues, you shouldn't feel bad. Because
there's nothing you can do about it, and we're all having a fabulous
time anyway, so just let him do his thing. So there's this huge
group of us, because it's Matt, Emily, Meagan, Tara, Andrew, and
myself who are all hanging out together and having a fabulous time.
And I was getting the "invisible entity" treatment from Tatsu, it
was pretty funny. Because he'd be walking in one direction, and I'd
be headed there too, and there'd be a "oh, I forgot to bring my
towel" and he'd go back to get it. It was really funny. But I fully
intended to make him dance with me at some point during the evening,
since he was leaving and it's very possible I'll never see him
again. So anyway, I come back from a dance, and I look up and Tara
and Tatsu are having a conversation! And Emily comes over, and Matt,
and we're all just like, "did you see?! Did you see what's
happening?!" and we were shocked then. They disappeared for a bit.
And then came back, and it didn't look like they'd had a brawl in
the street. In fact, they both looked just fine. It was so so weird!
I went over a couple songs later, to see if Tatsu would stop
ignoring me, and he looks up and the first thing he says is "Hey, do
you want to dance?" And I was shocked again! Usually Tatsu will put
up a fight if you've made him angry. Which I know I had, so I was
fully expecting to have to convince him to dance with me. But he was
perfectly happy to do so, and we had a wonderful dance, and a good
conversation about what he's going to be doing, and whether or not I
might see him again. Etc. etc. But the real shocker, is that the
last dance of the evening, Tatsu asked Tara to dance. We couldn't
scrape our jaws off the floor! His last dance in Seattle, and Tatsu
Oiye asked Tara Martin to dance. It was incredible. We decided that
right then and there, the world ended, and now we're all in heaven,
because never in our wildest dreams did we imagine that. It was
weird enough that they had talked! But dancing together? Never.
Never ever. It was amazing! It was such a crazy crazy night! But I'm
really happy, that maybe finally that awfulness that was Tatsu's
issues maybe worked itself out. Anyway, I'm still in shock, and
probably will be for a while. :)
I just thought at least a couple of you would be interested in
that story, knowing the background on Tatsu. :)
Anyway, things are going well here. I'm painting my practice
brains. And hopefully I'll finish them on Monday, so that we can see
how reliable I am, and then I can start in on some of the real data.
I'm still messing with that database, and although it's not being
quite as frustrating as it was before, it's still a mess, and no
matter how hard I try, I think it might remain a mess. Which stinks.
Oh well. I keep working on it. Work at the restaurant is going fine.
I heard the cutest thing last night. There are these two little boys
eating with their parents, and one of them asks "Daddy what's
(something unclear that I didn't hear)" "That's a drug" the other
little boy replies " We shouldn't be able to have drugs until we're
21." Completely seriously. And that was one of the cutest things
I've heard in a long time! I adore little kids. But only when
they're funny like that. :)
So, that's about my life right now. Hope all of yours are going
well.

Oh this is fabulous! So, my mom told me that she was talking to the teacher she works with, and Nora (the teacher) told my mom that she thought Ian must be a very good friend to come up here and visit me, and "she could just see that we'd get married and have lots of kids who danced." I laughed and told my mom I would never marry Ian. She didn't understand why. :)
So there's this interesting situation where a bunch of us thought that Ian and Ashleigh were either together already, or at least thinking about it seriously, I didn't get a chance to ask Ian yet, which I'm very disappointed in, but I partially forgot, and partly it never came up. But Ashleigh claims that they're not together, very vehemently actually. It was such an amusing conversation, because she had no idea that he was telling people she was his girlfriend, and apparently thought she had made it very clear that they weren't together. Unbeknownst to her, he thinks otherwise, as far as we know. So, your beloved super-spy and gossip queen ;) (Because that's exactly what I am. Riiiiiight.) is going to do some recconnaisance work for Ashleigh, and we'll see what happens. I find it a very interesting, and pretty funny situation, although I'm not sure how funny Ian will find it. *sigh* Silly boy.
But we had a fabulous time while he was up here! He got here around dinner time Sunday evening, so he ate, and then we talked for a little while, and then went out to the Century, which isn't my favorite place, and I still don't really like it, but I hadn't been for a year, so I just won't go there anymore unless there's something really good going on. But Ian had a good time. Which is good. Oh, he also gave me my very first lesson in driving a manual. I stalled the car. It was exciting. That's all we had time for because then Matt arrived. But I "tried to drive" Ian's very very cool and sexy car. It's a really awesome car. And so fun to ride in! We got to put the top down on the drive home Monday night because it was finally not raining, and it was fabulous! I've never been in a true convertible before, just t-tops, so it was really fun! And it's red, and awesome! Enough about the car. :) We went to the museum of flight on Monday, and went through the new Wing of Courage. It was amazing! We just went through the WWII section, there was a whole nother floor of WWI, and we didn't even get to it, though we spent about four hours, although we did spend some time in the regular wing too. But the fighter jets are amazing. And the exhibits are really really well done. I wish we'd had more time. But that was really fun. And we went out dancing that night too, and I saw Andrew! For the first time this summer. :) So it was a really fun night because there were a bunch of us! Ian left yesterday morning to go down to Ashland. And it was a gorgeous day, so the top was down for sure. :) Anyway, we had a good time, and I'm so glad he got to come up here. I just adore having visitors! :)
Other things: so, my internship was awesome today, I love the program we're using to measure the brain. I get to measure the basal ganglia, so I'm actually doing volumes instead of just areas. And none of this may make sense/matter to you, but I'm going to tell you anyway because I'm excited! So, I have to measure the putamen and the caudate, which because it's just the two of them mean that I'm actually measuring the striatum and not the basal ganglia, but whatever, she called it the basal ganglia. :) So I get to paint them in on each of the slices in the scan. And it's fun, because I get to choose two colors, and then basically color. But I want a more accurate tool, because I can't quite fill in exactly what I want to. Because you just can't be that accurate. But Elizabeth told me I was being too neurotic. But both Winslow and I were commisurating on being perfectionists. :) Winslow, is the other intern, he goes to Swarthmore, and lives up here. He seems pretty nice, but his school is tiny! I'm so glad I don't go anywhere that small. It's the size of Pomona, but that's all there is! I can't even imagine. No resources. *sigh* I am such a lucky girl. :)
I'm so envious of all of you with free time. You'd think I'd have some too right? Wrong! It's not summer here! *sigh* But at least I'm having fun most of the time. Anyway, this is super long, so I'm going to stop, but have a wonderful day!

I was so so frustrated at my internship today! Erg! I hate computers! I spent three hours this afternoon trying to burn a CD. Yes, just one. *glares at the world* Here's the story: I've been working on this spread sheet thing, right? So I finally finish it this morning, it's completely done. There are only nine scans without dates, and we've done everything possible to find them, they just aren't available. So... I print it out, and take it to Elizabeth, and she looks at it, and says, it's great, now I should sort it by date and then print it out again, and then she'll have me start burning a new set of CDs. *sigh* Fine, I had thought I would get to go home, but... I went back, and sorted the stupid thing one last time. Collected the set of other CDs that I would need to get the files off of to burn, got it all ready, and burned the first CD! I was all excited. Nice, I should be able to get about four done at least. Since this one only took me about half an hour. So I go back up to get the next set of CDs that I need, and on the way I think to ask whether I should have included these other little file things on the CD that I just burned. Well, Kate says yes, so I'm supposed to redo the last CD, with little folders and include all the files. Fine. A lot of work, I should be getting paid for this! But fine. So I go back down, create the stinking little folders, which takes forty minutes at least, because there are forty of them, and their titles are the seven digit ID plus the date of the exam. Then I go into the other CDs get all the files I need. Finally finish that, and then hit burn. The program freezes. I hate you. I hate you I hate you! Fine. So I end it, and started recreating it. But I wanted to cry. So I saved this one. Smart girl. You'd think I would have learned something from dealing with my own computer all the time. *sigh*
But, it's over, and I go in on Friday morning to learn about the data analysis program, so hopefully that's cool and interesting instead of boring and frustrating.
That's about how things are going. Except that Memorial Day was really fun! Well, except for the eight hours of work. But we had lots of people over at my house, and it was really nice. But I didn't get to go dancing, everyone was too tired. :( It was sad, but hopefully tomorrow! Anyway, hope you all are having a good summer!
