Weekend

Well, this weekend was lots of fun! Ian came down, and Sarra made a fancy dinner, which was very good. We played Carcasonne, another strategy game involving farms and buildings and resources, but it was a lot of fun! I lost, as always. But it was enjoyable anyway. Then we introduced Ian to Firefly, which he seemed to thoroughly enjoy. And it was so exciting to create another convert. :) Yay for Firefly! Soooo much wonderfulness.

Anyway, Ian's doing well. He's getting a boat, a 12 foot sailboat apparently, and I'm supposed to find my way up to Santa Barbara later in the summer so that we can go sailing. Which is exciting! I've never actually been sailing. Although I do like boats, so that'll be really fun. Plus, it's Ian, anything with him is fun. :)

We also saw the newest Star Wars movie, and it's so much better than the last two. So much! More like Star Wars, although I still like the originals best. It's better. And it was definitely visually appealing. So that's good.

Our computer program for the EEG lab is working again, so I ran Sarra as a participant today, and everything worked really well, so that's excellent! It means I can actually start bringing in people again, which is great!

Anyway, I think that's the latest! I miss you all! But hopefully I'll talk to you soon! :)

Worst Fear Ever

So, I found out yesterday that Liberty Hamilton, one of my fellow soon-to-be-seniors at Scripps, and a dancer (we danced together my first year when I did the Scripps-Pomona dance concert) got hit by a bus in Buenos Aires. She will live, and from about the waist up is as fine as you can be, but her legs are a mess, and with a lot of surgery, she may be able to walk again. But she will almost certainly never be able to dance again. Talk about having mortality brought home to you. What happened to Liberty is my worst fear, having to live without dance... it makes me want to vomit to think about it. I was in shock for quite a while yesterday. It makes me very thankful that I can still move and dance. Very thankful. Put Liberty in your thoughts, I hope for her sake that the surgeries go well.

Little Black Bugs

So, on Tuesday I got back from lab to find that there was a weevil infestation in the Hartley's pantry. I knew they were there because I could hear them eating. It was absolutely one of the most disgusting things ever. And I ended up throwing out most of their pasta, which was sad. But yeah, weevils... not so up on the keeping them around.

I swear this house is going to throw everything it possibly can at me to deal with! Even Alan has commented that I seem to be having to deal with all the random unusual things about housekeeping. *sigh* Silly house.

Ahh the radio

I just heard the best commercial ever! It went something like this:

"You've come to take a latin dance lesson with your fiance in a low-cut dress.
Here comes the latin dance instructor with ponytail, chest hair, and silk shirt.
Oh no! Now the latin dance instructor is pulling a move on your fiance with sexy latin hip motion and comments on her nice maracas. And suddenly, he's all over those nice maracas, and the silk shirt is nowhere in sight. Where the heck did silk shirt go?! And then she's leaving with sexy latin hips and asta la vista baby."

Not quite word for word, but that's the general gist of it. And I am thoroughly amused. It's a commercial for a race track. But this part is the best ever! And it reminds of a certain boy in particular. *Can* Oops, did I actually write that. ;) He's so going to be a sleazy latin dance instructor one of these days. *sigh* So amusing. I love the radio.

Alan's House

Well, I guess it's kind of my house until August, but still. Not really mine. I just thought I would show you all where I'm living for the next two and a half months, and it was actually sunny yesterday afternoon, so I took some pictures around the house. :)

Here's what you can see from the front of the house, but the driveway is off an alley in the back, so they just have a huge yard. But they were really smart Californians and got a yard that's not grass, so there's no watering needed really. Nice from my point of view!

This is the backyard, which I absolutely adore. It's got all kinds of fruit trees and pretty flowers in it.

The kitchen, where I will be spending lots of time learning to cook yummy things. Posted by Hello

And the above is the kitchen, which gave me my first home-owner adventure this morning. The plumbing under the sink decided to leak, and made a mess in the cupboard underneath. Fortunately, the leak was easy to fix, just a loose connection that I could screw back in. But still, lots of cleaning!

And finally, the family room, which I enjoy because it feels kind of homey with it's NW flavor. The fridge even has a slug on it. :)

Anyway, enjoy. Now you have an idea of where I am. It's nice. But I miss you all.

Wow!

I got an A in Research Methods!! I got an A! Apparently one of two people in the class who did so. I'm so excited!

I ran into Stacey, one of my profs. this morning on my way to lab, and she told me, since she had just turned in the grades. So all those hours and hours of work paid off. It's really nice to know that. That's the only grade I know so far, and I really hope my chem grade is surprisingly nice as well, but we'll see on the 23rd, that's when everything should get posted.

But Research Methods! Wheee! Probably the most intense class I've ever had. And I did it, while having a boyfriend, and dancing lots and lots. :) Yay for me!

Done

Well, it's all over. Everything. It's kind of insane, and a lot sad. I went to graduation on Sunday for Pomona, saw my friends from there graduate, which is most of my friends. Especially the boys. I'm going to miss them so much. It was a pretty nice ceremony, but the speaker wasn't that impressive. Hopefully our graduation will be better. We'll see.

Anyway, life goes on, I'm living in Alan's house, with Sarra who will be here for the next three weeks, which is wonderful. It's going to be rather sad and lonely when she leaves I think. But we're cooking for ourselves, things seem to be going pretty well. I've got everything ready in the lab, so now we just need some participants, and it's time to start working on that. But not today. I've found that if I keep myself busy enough, I don't have to think about all the sadness that happened in the last week. Like, dancing with Andrew for the last time, playing jenga with my seniors for the last time, eating lunch at Quiznos in the Village with Sandor.... so many things, and I miss them already. No idea what I'm going to do next year. Even Chris is worried about how many good dancers we lost this year. It makes me even more scared. Chris doesn't get worried. I'm afraid we won't get to go to Ohio. And it's my senior year dang it. I mean, I guess I've had more than my share, having two national championships, but still. My senior year!

Meh. Anyway, dial-up connection at Alan's is awful, it takes like five minutes to load a webpage, so I've got my computer here at school in our lab, so I won't be online very often, but I like the connection so much more. Cell phone is the best way to reach me. I'll have that with me all the time, whether I'm at Alan's or in the lab. Anyway, I hope things are going well for the rest of you, and that you don't have nearly as many sad things as I do. And hopefully it's sunny wherever you are. Have fun everyone, I shall try to do the same...

Concert and the Like

So it's been a while again. But you'll have to forgive me. Things got a little insane in the busy department. We had tons of major papers due, and then getting ready for Concert just took up a lot of time as well. Mommy, Daddy and Kari all came down this year, which was really exciting. I wish we had gotten to spend more time together, but it was really really good to see them! I miss them a lot.

Anyway, Concert went pretty darn well. At least Friday and Saturday it did. Friday Ian and Ashleigh came down, which was lots of fun because they were just really loud and enthusiastic, and so the entire audience was as a result, which is always awesome. Saturday, was the most amazing performance. I think it was the quietest audience we had, but it was just a really amazing show. We did an excellent job. Sunday was awful, which was really sad because that was the day they ended up doing the actual real filming. (One of the cameras went out on Saturday, so they decided to film again and use Sunday's performance, which was really a bad idea.)

My solo was tons of fun! Everyone seemed to enjoy it a lot, which was really nice because we did work hard on it. The boys were amazing, as always. They really made the routine. So much fun! And, we got to wear the cupcake dresses. Since we couldn't run around in them backstage because the skirts were just too huge, I ran around in everything but the dress, and thus earned myself a nickname of Naked Katie. I was so amused. Everyone else was too, because everyone else had a routine before the Viennese to be dressed for. Too much fun.

I've put some of my favorite pictures below, there are of course, lots more. But yes. Good times, lots of fun. And amazing dancing, especially by our seniors. Oh I'm going to miss them so much next year! But I shall not cry now. Not yet.
